153: Are We Breaking Up? A Real Chat with Hannah & Sara
Leaving the comfort of a corporate job to chase the entrepreneurial dream is like leaping into the unknown, filled with both exhilarating freedom and the gritty reality of what it takes to build something from the ground up. As we kick off a new year on Mindfully Moody, we share our journey of personal growth and self-discovery over the past three years, capturing the essence of what it means to transition from structured routines to the dynamic world of entrepreneurship. Mentorship emerges as a crucial beacon on this path, and we discuss how accessible wisdom can be a game-changer, lighting the way even when the road seems steep.
Reflecting on personal growth, we emphasize the often-overlooked art of energy management, urging you to audit your life and align it with what truly matters. A bittersweet moment arises as I announce my temporary departure from the podcast to focus on my pregnancy and upcoming home birth—a decision rooted in the prioritization of well-being during transformative life changes. While this chapter closes, it's more of a 'see you later' than a farewell. We end on a note of gratitude, cherishing the meaningful progress and connections forged along this journey, and joyfully anticipate reconnecting with our cherished listeners soon. Until then, we send love and appreciation, reminding you that this is merely a pause, not the end.
Hello, hello and welcome back to Mindfully Moody y'all. It's Hannah and I'm joined by my bestie, my co-host, sarah, and it has been, oh my gosh, so long. Me even just saying this intro. I feel like so weird. I feel like we haven't recorded in like a month. But happy new year everyone. It is January 8th and we're recording this episode and Sarah and I have just been spending the last 30 minutes catching up on our own lives and we are excited to have a live conversation here on the podcast and chat with y'all. So welcome back. Happy New Year. How we doing.
Speaker 2:Hello, I can't believe it's 2025. I'm going to be saying that for the next like six months because I still feel like it's not going to resonate to me that it's 2025. I keep writing 2024 on everything Same I'm like oh, that's every year though you know. But yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 2:I feel like we haven't recorded in so long and it's been three years since we started Mindfully Moody, which is just like wow, wow, wow, wow, I'm just thinking about, like I'm in my new house right now that I just moved into, like all the different places that I've recorded Mindfully Moody in the last three years because I've been in so many different places you know, yeah, if you think about like where we were when we started this, like I'm thinking I was like in my apartment in Austin, like working at Springshot.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh, like we were just such different people then, such different people.
Speaker 2:Then I know it's so crazy, it's so crazy. I was what. So when we first started talking about Mindfully Moody, I was at home with my parents. I remember in Naples, living during COVID, but then when we first got up and running yeah, I guess that would have been where was I living at that time? The fancy apartment in Oakland? Yeah, yeah, that's what I just I always call it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, the one with the floor-to-ceiling windows, that one.
Speaker 2:And then, yeah, I moved to another place in Oakland and then I moved to Florida. And then, yeah, I moved to another place in Oakland and then I moved to Florida and I've been in three different places recording since I've been in Florida. So five different apartments Wow, well, four apartments in one house that I've recorded in.
Speaker 1:We also like I remember, I feel like it was that year that we started, so what? It was 2022, right, yeah, let's cut off for it.
Speaker 2:It's like there is so many pros and I do think, obviously, that the pros outweigh the cons. Like I never am actually going to go back, but I feel that I took so much shit for granted when I did work in corporate and I wish I could go back and be like it's not that bad. You know what I mean? Do you feel that way? No, you're like it was that bad.
Speaker 1:No, it was that bad. I just am like thinking about the anxiety, Like just this for example, you know it's 1030 on a Wednesday and like we get to like record in the middle of the day without like any stress. Like I love that. You know the free, the freedom, but you have to be OK with, if you're fully committing to that of not making shit, eating shit. Like it's hard, it's it's. I wish I would have known that.
Speaker 1:Like so many people do sell the dream of, like you know, zero to 10 K in three months and like I've been victim to that, I've done that myself. Like it's not easy. I'm still here, like you know, two and a half years in, and it's still a hustle. Like I'm still haven't hit the goals that I want. Like it's, it's challenging. And I would say, like all of a sudden I'm getting this advice call about work, but like get a mentor. Like if you can, like have somebody that's doing what you want to do, like just literally be like, hey, I'll go work for free for you so you can literally jump timelines. You know that's what I'm just thinking. Like someone's already done it. Just learn from somebody.
Speaker 2:I wish that I would have done that when I was working in corporate, like if I would have went and said to like a coach, you know like I'll work for you for free for 10, 15 hours a week, you know, just to like see how you are making your money. You know, because now it's like you think about mentorship and it's like you have to pay thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. I mean people pay 10, 15, 20, 25,000 to get a mentor these days. You know.
Speaker 1:Yeah, whatever happened to the good old free mentor? I got a mentor Like someone's, like do you have a mentor? And it's like that costs a lot of money 5,000, $10,000. I want to find a free mentor, someone that just kind of still their heart wants to show me the ropes, I know, wouldn't that be nice yeah. I mean, I would be a mentor to someone that's listening.
Speaker 2:I was just going to say that I was just going to say that, like I would absolutely mentor, I mean I'm not going to give you like all the freaking time, like when you pay for it you know you're getting more access. But yeah, I mean it's just it's it's a hustle, it's a challenge, you know. I mean I think about my parents' business. Like you know, that Rez and I are taking over. I mean they took, like they've been in business almost 20 years, so I mean they took eight to 10 years to hit their stride. Yeah, yeah, you know, I mean it takes time. It's like this did not grow into something overnight, you know, and you know it takes.
Speaker 2:A certain type of business and I love that there's so much out there on the Internet, you know, from people that are in the space of us is like you can make millions of dollars a year. But I do think that that is a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very small percentage of people that are making that much money. You know, and in a lot of businesses it can be challenging to to scale to that that level. You know. Yeah, but it's also hard to scale and be like doing something that you're passionate about, so like me doing retreats. You know I'm so deeply passionate about that. Is that going to make me millions of dollars? No, it's not, because otherwise I would have to go out of integrity to charge people so much money that it wouldn't be accessible to anyone other than 0.5% of the population. You know.
Speaker 1:Yeah, no, totally I mean it. I don't. You guys are probably like where is this episode going, but I feel like this is like stuff that's on our heart. Yeah, that's what I feel too. I just did a TikTok on that of, like you know, everyone wants to be at this point immediately and it's like look at the Saharas of the world, right, like she started her YouTube channel in like 2016. Like almost 30. They started, I don't know, know, maybe over five years ago, like manifestation babe. Like she started 10. She's been doing this for 10 years. So, like these people, it's like we, we want their lives. We're like add, you know, admiring them. Yet they've put in like years and years and years of work. So, anyways, yeah, I think it's it.
Speaker 2:It's deciding where you want to put in the work, what feels most aligned to you, and like following that path phases of life where, like you have the time and the energy to hustle, you know to be dedicating, you know, 50, 60 hours a week to working, or even when you're an entrepreneur.
Speaker 2:It's like, even if you're not actively working for 50 to 60 hours a week, which most people probably are, but you're thinking about it yeah, at least that often, if not, you know, because it's on your mind Like I mean, I wake up thinking about how I'm going to make more money, or like what I need to do for the day, or what work thing you know.
Speaker 2:Like that stays on my mind so often. But then other things start arising in your life, like me being pregnant, and it's like you have to slow down the hustle, you know, and you go into a different transition where it's like I can't, I mean I'm struggling to work 40 hours a week at this point, you know. So, um, and I just really I'm like, am I gonna? As I just said that I'm like I want to be an advocate for pregnant women not working, um, because it's so hard, you know, it's like I don't really like sometimes I, I will get like the inspiration of like okay, how am I gonna expand my, my businesses? But a lot of times I'm like how am I gonna to expand my businesses? But a lot of times I'm like how am I going to fucking make it through the day?
Speaker 1:You know like how am.
Speaker 2:I going to get out of bed or whatever you know. So it's brought me into this different phase in my life where I've had to just re-evaluate a lot of ways that I spend my time.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, and I think it's good to have those moments, I mean, obviously, with you being in the pregnancy. There's so much going like already going on in your internal world, and taking an audit of like your external world is critical, of like, okay, what I have this much energy in my day, in my life, like, where do I want to be spending my energy? What's going to put me in the best position for my son, like my future family, you know, and I think that's good, whether people are pregnant or starting a new job or moving to a new city. Like totally taking an audit on your life and being like, okay, what am I currently focusing on? What is maybe draining my energy? How can I reclaim parts of me to align to the person that I want to be Like?
Speaker 1:I think having a daily practice of that is like what feels good. Where do I want to put more energy? Where, you know, because things, yeah, things take our, our energy and it's like, subconsciously sometimes too, of like, okay, I'm having this huge energy lake with health stuff, you know, and it's like, how can that? I don't want that energy to go go there and it's like, probably, like a huge percentage of my energy in the day is going towards that thing, so yeah, yeah that also, just to say all that we get into.
Speaker 2:Yes, I have a little announcement for my mindfully listeners. I'm so serious, okay. Also, I feel like this is not surprising because many people do this. You know, I am going to take a break from podcasting. I'm taking a break from a lot of things in my life actually, in order to just focus. I'm almost in my third trimester and I am putting a lot of my energy now into I mean one, resting, two, being able to sustain, you know, my businesses outside of Mindfully Moody, and then also like, into preparing for birth. I'm going to do a home birth and there's a lot of like mental, physical preparation that is going into that for me. So I am going to take a break from Mindfully Moody.
Speaker 2:So sadly and it does like, as I say that like, of course, it makes me so sad because I love recording, I love being with Hannah, I love sharing what is on our hearts, the things that we love to do, the things that we've learned. I mean the whole reason we started this podcast is to help people with all of the tools and things that we have learned on our journeys, and that's a big part of my purpose and passion. I mean it is my purpose and passion, like as a coach, as a facilitator, and yeah, it's a hard decision for me. It was a really hard decision for me, but I think it's the right decision for me. So it is an undetermined amount of time, but really do. As I'm saying this, I'm like I will be back like it's not goodbye, it's see you later.
Speaker 1:Yes, it's see you later. Uh, yeah, this, I mean we've been like sitting on this for like the past month, so there's been a lot of like processing and like conversations around it, but like one, obviously, like it was hard to take it in at first, but like such a beautiful example you are to like choose yourself above all other things and, like you know, even though it's hard to to come to like I'm proud of you for that you know. Even though it's hard to come to, like I'm proud of you for that, you know, because there's selfish things that come up of like oh, I mean, just keep Mindfully Moody going, but like end of the day, like you're having a freaking baby and you need to reclaim your energy, and like make sure that you're like top notch for all of that. And I agree, like I think, mindfully moody, like well, you're, you're, I think you'll still come on.
Speaker 2:I think that will. Yes, I would love you know who knows guest guest, uh, yeah, host, I guess I'm like, what do I want to say?
Speaker 1:oh yeah, wait. No, what is that called surprise? Co-host yeah, surprise, surprise, guest, surprise co-host and like who knows what what's gonna happen, you know, once you have the baby, and like, yeah, you know.
Speaker 2:I don't hear a crying baby on the like this.
Speaker 1:Maybe just this season is is over for now, but there could be a future season, yes, um, and we've built like so wow, so many amazing. I don't want to make this like an episode of like crying, but like we've done so much for the podcast and for ourselves and like as friends, yeah, and I feel like we have so much to be proud of, like we don't have to look at this as like a sad thing. I think it's like a big thing that we've accomplished. Like that's a huge accomplishment to run a podcast for two full years, posting almost every single week. Like you know, this was going to be our third year and most people can't say that they've done that, and I'm proud of us.
Speaker 2:This would have been. This would have been our fourth year. Wait what? All of 2022, all of 2023, all of 2022. Oh my God, like give us more credit. Fourth year, that's insane.
Speaker 1:Yeah, this is going into year four. I know Like how many conversations we've had. Like the bottom line is like, mindfully, moody was like so healing for me and, I think, for us together, like just a space for us to come and have these conversations of like we're going through this shit and this is how we're kind of overcoming it and healing from it and like working through all of the gunk that comes up in like this experience of life, and it's been so healing to like have it in this space to just talk and connect and learn from each other and grow, and I'm so grateful for it me too.
Speaker 2:It's been such a gift, you know, a gift in so many ways and I'm such a processor out loud. So, like what this has done for you know my spiritual journey, my growth journey, like me, feeling supported you, you know, by you, by myself, by the people that listen. You know getting feedback from people that it helps them and that they feel understood and seen. And you know it's, it's such a fantastic journey and I think that we may be surprised in the future of where the journey goes. And I'm open, let me say my intention universe lead us. Lead us where we're meant to be, lead us where we're meant to go next.
Speaker 2:You know, because you never know.
Speaker 1:It's like you think you have a plan of it's going to go this way or that way, and it's like we really have no idea where it could go. What's that quote? You think you have a plan and god laughs at you or something.
Speaker 2:Isn't that something, something like that? Yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly. I mean I don't I I don't know where. I totally thought my life was going to be at at this point, but I mean it's better than I could have ever expected, you know.
Speaker 1:That's beautiful.
Speaker 2:Yeah, how lucky to say that I know.
Speaker 1:So what you guys can expect from the podcast I'm going to continue doing the podcast every month. I'll probably do a solo episode, one solo episode, and then I'm going to bring on a guest, so you can expect two episodes per month. I'll probably do a solo episode, one solo episode, and then I'm going to bring on a guest, so you can expect two episodes per month. I'm going to try to stick to it. Like honestly, at this point I'm like who knows, maybe I'm going to try it. I'm just being so transparent.
Speaker 2:Like I might take a break too. That's OK.
Speaker 1:That's OK. You know it's going to be interesting to try to operate it without having you here. But I definitely want to keep something going and like maybe Sarah will come on when it feels good for her, um, but I'll definitely want to have some guests on continuing to talk about, like, spirituality, relationships, healing, entrepreneurship, all the things that we've been on and just diving more into those. So we're still cooking on the podcast. Don't leave us quite yet. Um, yeah, what else?
Speaker 2:Yeah, wow, I'm just, I'm just like feeling like, wow, we've come so far. You know, I'm just so proud of us and I'm excited. I'm excited for the future. You know, um, I'm excited to see what, what comes of Mindfully Moody. I'm excited to see what comes of your business, of my business, of you know, like we have been talking for years about how to expand Mindfully Moody outside of a podcast and build a more concrete community, build programs and things. You know we have built digital products and courses and things like that. But you never know. It's like we I just I, I don't know, as we're talking about this and like I feel like some, like, like big things are gonna happen.
Speaker 1:that's just what I always feel, like I just have to always go with that you know, yeah, yeah, I mean I always had thought of like Mindfully Moody as a brand, like, yeah, I don't know, the name is just too good. My mom's always like you girls, that name is so good. I actually just printed her a hat, so now I got to keep it going. She's repping the hat what is that? Out of her town? But yeah, you never know what that could be. And maybe that this you know like a relationship, sometimes maybe space is needed for clarity. You know, to find out what you want, and maybe that this you know like a relationship, sometimes maybe space is needed for clarity. Yeah, you know to find out what you want. And maybe we do build something even bigger, like it's like the no contact situation. If you go no contact in a relationship and then they realize how much they it worked. For me it's not going to be you.
Speaker 2:It worked for me in my relationship with my husband.
Speaker 1:No, but we can't go no contact you know, but like, yeah, who knows this could be, there could be something even bigger and better, just with this space that's taken from it, or you know?
Speaker 2:who knows what could come.
Speaker 1:I don't think that this is the end of me and you with Mindfully Moody.
Speaker 2:I think that there's something bigger to come, but it to be determined yeah, it's like the end of an era, but with the opening of a whole new era. You know, because I mean my life, like I am going through such a massive transition personally right now. You know like the transition from maiden to mother and like changing all my DNA is changing, as I'm, you know, being pregnant and gonna have a baby and I feel like for myself there's gonna be this big deepening and blossoming of my purpose and how I express it and how I bring it to the world.
Speaker 2:You know, and I am a person that has always been passionate about speaking. I've never had that same kind of like fear. Necessarily, as other people have. I have many other fears, but that has never been like a key fear of mine. I feel like I've always like it fuels me to speak to people and relate to people, whether it be in like a bigger group setting or a more intimate group or one on one, and, yeah, I just always see this being like a part of me. That's why we started the podcast, because we were like this, we would love this. We're just talking to each other and processing about what's going on in our lives, you know. So I feel like that's that's not going to be ever something that I would lose passion for. You know that would just be expanding.
Speaker 1:Yes, expanding the possibilities. We are expanding the possibilities. We are expanding. We are expanding, even though it may feel like it's like the closing. It's also like without the closing you wouldn't have the expansion. So I'm grateful. I'm grateful for you, I'm grateful for the podcast and like all of the healing that we've done and, yeah, I don't know where to go from here.
Speaker 2:I know, I know maybe we just this. This feels like a natural ending, like okay ending of the episode, guys, not ending our friendship's done. It's been fun oh my god, I'm just kidding. No, I, but you know what's coming up to my mind now. I like, um, no, actually I'll tell you after the end. On that note, we're gonna be.
Speaker 1:We're gonna be taking this friendship offline thank you, okay, thank you guys love you. Thank you so much for listening. We love you. We'll see you in February and until then, sending you so much love, bye.
